ObjectSecurity, an information security leader (with a strong track record in distributed systems, big data, and internet of things) who is driving model-driven security policy automation globally, today announced that they have recently started a 44-month research contract in the area of big data analytics. The project is titled “Visual Analytics for Sense-making in CRiminal Intelligence analysis” (“VALCRI”).

ObjectSecurity will collaborate with a 18-organization consortium (Middlesex University, Space Applications Services, Battelle Memorial Institute Non Profit Corporation, University of Konstanz, Linköping University, City University London, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, A E Solutions (BI) Ltd, Technische Universitat Graz, Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology, Technische Universitat Wien, Unabhängiges Landeszentrum für Datenschutz Schleswig-Holstein, i-Intelligence, Exipple Studio SL, West Midlands Police Authority, Stad Antwerpen, Service Public Federal Interieur, and ObjectSecurity Ltd.)

VALCRI will create a visual analytics-based sense-making capability for criminal intelligence analysis by developing and integrating a number of technologies into a coherent working environment for the analyst we call the Reasoning Workspace. Conceptually, the Reasoning Workspace comprises three areas: (i) a Data Space which will enable an analyst to see what data and themes exist, (ii) an Analysis Space to which data can be brought into to carry out various computational analyses including statistical and text analysis, and (iii) a Hypothesis Space that will enable the analysts to assemble their evidence into coherent arguments that lead to meaningful and valid conclusions. The user interface will be rooted in the concepts of visual analytics and interactive dynamics, to enable real-time analytic interaction with data.

ObjectSecurity Ltd.’s project focus is the security of complex, multi-stakeholder, distributed, big data systems, and in particular the development of VALCRI’s Scalable and Secure Distributed Processing (S2DP) Platform. Through the project, the company will continue advancing the state of the art in model-driven security, advanced access control approaches, distributed systems security software.
