You may have seen the recent Apple privacy issue in the press (for example in this article) – basically random contractors were able to listen into Siri recordings with implied consent, even when Siri was not actively used. Apple issued an apology and promised default opt-out (see here). However, previously collected recordings are apparently not automatically deleted, and it is unclear if settings are automatically reset to default opt-out for all users.
We therefore recommend to do the following steps to ensure you are safe:
- ensure the “Improve Siri & Dictation” toggle is off: Settings > Privacy > Analytics & Improvement > Improve Siri & Dictation
- delete your history in Settings > Siri & Search > Siri History – then tap “Delete Siri & Dictation History”
- revoking location tracking and third-party app integration with Siri, as described on this Apple page.
And as usual, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
